Safety Challenges
- What are the safety issues of having bi-directional power ports? Exposed power could kill!
- Must auto-detect and shut off power when endpoint disappears.
- How do we detect and avoid loops in the power plane?
Physical/Link Layer Issues
- What does the neighbor discovery protocol for the IPS network look like?
- Claim: discovery should be automatic, like IPv6.
- What sort of IPS interconnection topologies should be supported for the power plane?
- Shared bus reflect the current home, but could complicate link capacity planning and estimation.
- Point-to-point provides easier accountability -- no joule theives.
- How could an IPS autodetect the link capacity?
Network/Transport Issues
- What are the scoping rules for IPS networks? Subnets?
- Accountability? Metering? Billing? This was left out of the Internet design but we can't do that here.
- How do we resolve billing disputes? Continuous accounting?
- An IPS subnet might use one type of protocol in the interior domain and a different one in the exterior.
- An IPS subnet might use filtering at the ingress/egress point to squelch in-band control traffic.
